Lower Facelift in Bangkok
A lower facelift is a surgical procedure targeting the lower face — jawline, jowls, and neck. It addresses sagging skin and underlying structures, creating a firmer, more defined, and youthful facial contour. Alongside the skin removal, the surgeon may also address excess neck fat where needed.
Sometimes called a “mini lift,” the procedure is less invasive compared to a full face lift, requiring smaller incisions. That means it offers a shorter recovery time and less risk of complications.
Thailand is a popular destination for a lower facelift. With experienced plastic surgeons and cost-effective procedures, medical tourists flock to Bangkok to enjoy facial rejuvenation in a comfortable, English-friendly environment.
Low Facelift Before & After
What is a Lower Facelift?
A lower facelift targets the excess, sagging skin in the neck, chin, and jawline area (the lower third of the face). As we age, the skin in this region naturally becomes loose, leading to jowls, marionette lines, and nasolabial folds. The result is an undefined jawline and facial structure.
In a facelift, the excess skin is removed alongside any neck fat to achieve a tighter, leaner, and more defined appearance. It can be combined with a neck lift, fat grafting, or fillers, depending on your final goal.
A SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) facelift targets the deeper structural layer beneath the skin.

Postoperative Care and Recovery
Following surgery, it’s normal to experience swelling, bruising, and tightness. Mild discomfort usually lasts around 1-2 weeks.
You’ll need a few days of early recovery care before resuming normal daily activities. Head elevation (including plenty of sleep), cold compresses, and pain medication are necessary to reduce swelling.
It’s recommended to avoid strenuous activity for 3-4 weeks. Avoid bending or lifting, using heavy equipment, or engaging in physical exercise. Your body just needs a little time to focus on recovery.
Within the first two weeks, the sutures will be removed, and the surgeon will inspect the results. If there are any signs of infection, antibiotics will be prescribed. However, this is rare. Most patients will be cleared to return to work within 10-14 days. Final results become more noticeable as swelling continues to settle.
Precautions and Potential Risks
Most people don’t experience any complications from the procedure. The procedure is generally considered safe when performed by an experienced surgeon.
The most common side effects include:
- Infection or bleeding, which may require additional treatment if it occurs
- Hematoma or seroma (a build-up of blood or fluid under the skin), which may need to be drained
- Temporary or, in rare cases, permanent numbness in the lower face or neck
- Facial nerve injury (rare), which can lead to weakness or asymmetry in facial movement
Rarely, patients can notice problems with the procedure itself. Scarring, poor healing, or even asymmetry can occur. However, this is uncommon with modern techniques. There is also a risk from general anesthesia.
