Different Types of Breast Lift Techniques

Before booking your flight to Thailand, make sure you are aware of the different techniques to choose the right option for you. The different breast lift techniques below are unique in cost and procedure type.

Crescent Lift

Best suited for patients with smaller breasts, This technique uses a crescent-shaped incision which removes a small amount of skin from the areola. After the skin is reattached, the breast is given immediate elevation, firmness and volume. At Interplast Clinic, this procedure costs 60,000 baht (approx. 1,700 USD).

Donut Lift

A donut lift is an excellent choice for those with small to medium breast size and mild sagging who want to improve breast perkiness. The donut lift removes a circular shaped piece of skin from around the areola and closing the incision. The donut lift additionally has the advantage of less visible scarring, as the incision scars are hidden by the natural creases of the areola. The cost of a donut lift at our clinic is 90,000 baht (approx. 2,540 USD).

Lollipop

Intended for women with mild to moderate sagging, the lollipop technique combines both creating an incision around the areola and a vertical one from below the areola. After restitching these incisions, the result is a more youthful looking and elevated areola. Many patients like this technique for the better appearance of a vertical scar. The lollipop procedure costs 130,000 baht (approx. 3,670 USD).

Anchor lift

The anchor lift is the best approach for those with significant sagging and is often combined with breast reduction as well. Similar to the lollipop, this technique involves making an incision around the areola and then another vertically beneath the areola. However, a third incision is then made horizontally along the breast crease, resulting in an anchor pattern on the breast. This method of breast listing is ideal for breasts with a high degree of sagging, although it results in noticeable scarring compared to other techniques. The price of an anchor lift at our clinic is 130,000 baht (approx. 3,670 USD).

Types of Sutures Used in Breast Lift

There are 2 types of sutures, or stitches. These are absorbable and non-absorbable. If absorbable sutures are used, they don’t require removal as they will naturally dissolve by themselves over time. Non-absorbable sutures, however, will require removal. In this case, the patient will need two appointments after surgery.

The first appointment is after five days to loosen the stitches. The second appointment is stitch removal, which is done 5-7 days after that. It is important to note that this means the patient needs to stay in Thailand at least 2 weeks after surgery.

Tips for Self-Care During Recovery

How to Care for Absorbable Sutures:

After the operation, when the swelling goes down, the absorbable stitches may sometimes come through the skin. This is also called a ‘spitting suture’. It’s not at all unusual and nothing to worry about.

In most cases you just need to trim the sutures at home. But sometimes there can be complications, including bleeding and pus from the sutures, so that’s why it’s important to take the antibiotics that the doctor will give you.

If, for some reason, you don’t want to or can’t take antibiotics, then you’ll need to keep the wound dry and help the skin breath as much as possible. For example, it’s better to not wear a bra when you’re at home. After 6 months, the stitches will be completely absorbed. If you observe any pus coming out, that means you need to trim the stitches. You can do this yourself at home with a pair of clean scissors (use alcohol solution to thoroughly clean them first). Never tug or pull the stitches – simply cut the end of the suture if it’s sticking out.

Take a Vitamin B Complex Supplement After Surgery

Any surgical operation involving the breasts, including breast lift, can damage nerve endings. Dr. Theerapong, chief plastic surgeon at Interplast Clinic in Bangkok, recommends taking a vitamin B complex supplement to help you with pain which can occur when the nerve recovers. The pain can be felt as a tingling sensation or sharp pain as the nerves regenerate and feeling returns to the skin and tissues. The pain will go away by itself, but it can take up to 6 months until it’s completely gone. A Vitamin B supplement including vitamins B1, B6 and B12, can help boost the body’s immune system and shorten recovery time. It can also help reduce the post-operative pain caused by the natural healing process.
